Tragic Update on Cargo Plane Incident: Death Toll Increases to 13

The total count of lives lost from the transport jet which ignited and plummeted has now risen to 13, as confirmed by recent reports.

City Leader's Statement

While en route to the Teamsters’ candlelight gathering, I received word of a thirteenth victim that died as a result of the UPS flight 2976 accident,” wrote the city mayor in a social media post. “My thoughts are with the families, associates and co-workers of all who were lost in this recent calamity. We will get through this as one.”

Deceased Confirmed

A release from the carrier named the flight crew on board the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 as Captain Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.

“Our sympathies reach out to every staff member who has been touched and all in our local community – helping you and ensuring you receive the support and aid you need is our priority,” the firm’s message expressed.

Investigation Details

Federal officials announced that the freight aircraft’s left wing burst into flames and an engine detached shortly after departure from the aviation hub, causing the plane to crash and erupt into a blaze.

The safety agency announced it is examining the jet’s maintenance history, that was in the state for maintenance weeks before the accident.

Aircraft records indicated the aircraft was on the runway in that location from early September to mid-October.

“We are cognizant that this jet was there in San Antonio,” said an official on Thursday, without a specific time frame. “We will look at each aspect of maintenance that was done, including the San Antonio visit, straight to the date of the trip.”

Recovery of Critical Items

The pilot’s recorder and information unit were recovered, and the power plant was discovered on the tarmac.

The units – referred to as black boxes – were built to withstand crash impacts and extreme fire from blazes, and they seemed to be intact when discovered amid the wreckage. Officials will reviewing recordings from the recorders.

Aircraft’s final data recordings indicated an elevation of that level and a speed of 210 mph ahead of the impact.

Maintenance Background

Based on aviation authority documents dated 18 September, a fracture on a component inside the fuel container demanded fixes.

The company ST Engineering, which said it provides aircraft servicing for the carrier’s jet and operates a maintenance center in Texas, refused to provide remarks, but said it would assist completely when officials contacted it.

Operations Resume

In the meantime, the hub operations restarted Wednesday night with its Next Day Air also known as night sort process, official a representative stated. Each of the three runways at Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport were also open again.

The distribution hub in Louisville is the firm’s biggest. The center hires in excess of 20,000 workers in the region, processes three hundred aircraft daily and processes over a huge volume of parcels an hour.

Community Support

A candlelight vigil was held on the late afternoon of 6 November by the local worker’s group, which acts for workers at the airfield, the organization’s biggest shipping facility.

Teamsters Local 89, which supports UPS workers, commenced the memorial with a quiet tribute at the evening hour, the approximate hour of the accident before.

“This incident was so abrupt, so unforeseen,” the leader told the assembly of attendees. “No one had a opportunity to part to any one of those who we have mourned.”
